Coupons Available for TV Digital Converter Boxes Starting Jan. 1

 Those who do not have cable or satellite will have to purchase a digital converter box in order to watch TV in the coming years as the federal government is set to change the way television is broadcasted in February 2009. Coupons for $40 off the retail price of a digital converter box will be available starting Jan. 1, 2008. Residents will have 90 days to use the coupons. Read more. |

Statement; New Board Members

NAPT plans to increase distribution of its audio and video products, in addition implement a new mission statement, and has approved three new board members to aid in these goals. The NAPT board of directors has released its three-year strategic plan that includes a new mission statement, "NAPT shares Native stories with the world." New board members include Julie Andersen, JoAnn Chase (Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara) and Laura Waterman Wittstock (Seneca). Read more. |
NAPT 2007 Filmmaker Grantees

Viewers of public TV will see future shows on a Laguna Pueblo tradition, the history of the ancient game of lacrosse, alternative energy and other compelling stories by and about Native Americans with the help of NAPT. The organization awarded more than $200,000 to documentary filmmakers in 2007 in its annual funding program for television proposals intended for public broadcasting. Read more.

| Native Radio Theater Call for Scripts

NAPT is accepting scripts for its third season of the Native Radio Theater project.
Scripts
should be short works, 10-minute or one-act plays no more than an hour
in length from Native American theater companies, authors or
playwrights. Postmarked deadline is Dec. 20, 2007. A national panel will select three finalists by April. Winners will split a prize of $1,000. Funding for production will also be available for chosen projects.

Visual Arts Grants Available

The National Museum of the American Indian has grants available to nonprofit or education-based organizations for exhibitions, installations and publications on contemporary Native art.
