The July 3 premiere of Standing Silent Nation on P.O.V. generated many phone calls and emails to NAPT, as well as significant traffic and feedback on the program website.

This show really struck a chord with many viewers. Our thanks go out to Prairie Dust Films for their courage, tenacity, and fine production skills. Also, thanks to our colleagues at P.O.V. for including Standing Silent Nation in their 20th Anniversary season.

2007 NMAI National Powwow - Live!

The radio hosts for this year's Powwow include Harlan McKosato (Sac & Fox/Ioway) from Native America Calling,
Frank Blythe (Eastern Band Cherokee/Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota) of Native American Public Telecommunications and
Camille Lacapa (Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe/Hopi-Tewa) from Native Voice One.  The powwow will be webcast live, from Washington DC on www.AIROS.org

Congressional Funding

From the Washington Post: The House Wednesday evening overwhelmingly rejected President Bush's plan to eliminate the $420 million federal subsidy for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The 357-72 vote demonstrated the enduring political strength of public broadcasting. The outcome was never in doubt, unlike a fight two years ago when Republicans tried but failed to slash public broadcasting subsidies.

JULY 15 through JULY 20, 2007, the Sixth Annual FOX American Indian Summer Institute wrapped up Friday night with a demonstration of skills at the closing banquet. NAPT sponsored five of the 25 participants. See their work at Community Correspondent's website.  The site will be up for about six more weeks.

Tears of joy streamed down Kimberley Lyman's face when she heard the news. On May 9th, 2007 a bill was unanimously passed to bring six previously unrecognized tribes into recognition.

"They (the tribes) have spent many years, and I have been alongside with them watching this journey for years and when I heard the news it was just tears of joy for their success," says Lyman.
