| It is with great pleasure that we, media organizations representing communities underserved by public broadcasting, present an Open Letter to Our Public Media Colleagues on the vital issue of diversity, developed as one part of the Enhancing Services to Underserved Audiences initiative undertaken by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 2008. We thank the leadership of CPB for encouraging our efforts to advance diversity as a core value throughout public media, and for their assistance in the production and dissemination of this letter.

Reminder Deadline July 15 Proposals are requested for programs in many genres including documentary, performance, cultural/public affairs and animation. Projects submitted to this solicitation must be intended for national public television broadcast. Assignment of exclusive broadcast rights for four years, off-air recording rights, educational, home video, foreign distribution and Internet broadcasting rights are included in NAPT“s Production License Agreement.

Seeking Entries for VisionMaker Video Youth Contest
|
VisionMaker Video, a product of NAPT, is accepting online entries for the youth VisionMaker Video Contest. VisionMaker Video/NAPT seeks to engage today's youth by aiding in the development of their
storytelling abilities through video. Contestants will produce a short
video that relates to this year's theme: "Youth Choices, Elder
Voices." The contest is open to legal residents of the U.S. and its
territories who are 14-21 years of age at the time of entry. There is
no entry fee. The top five videos will be screened at the biennial VisionMaker Film Festival Oct. 30-Nov. 5 in Lincoln, Neb. The VisionMaker Film Festival is a showcase of Native American documentaries and feature films. Deadline to enter is Sept. 1. Check www.nativetelecom.org/visionmakervideocontest for more details.

Jeffry Silverman is a film producer and director out of Anchorage, Alaska. Graduating with a film studies degree from Penn State University, Jeffry moved to Alaska where he helped start Blueberry Productions, creating films for the Alaska Native community.
His film For the Rights of All: Ending Jim Crow in Alaska airs on public TV stations this fall. Be sure to check your local listings.
